2/8 11:45-12:45 International Salon
Natyashastra, an ancient treaty on performance has significantly influenced Indian literature by establishing foundational principles for drama, poetry, and performance arts. Its detailed exploration of rasa (emotional essence) and bhava (expression) guided literary creativity, encouraging works to evoke specific emotional responses in audiences. Indian classical literature, including epic poetry, plays, and narrative traditions adopted Natyashastra's structure, combining plot development (narrative modes), character portrayal, and aesthetics. Till date Natyashastra’s theories continue to shape Indian storytelling, influencing modern theatre and movies.
