依據原住民族語言發展法第27條規定，原住民族委員會捐助成立「財團法人原住民族語言研究發展基金會」。本基金會是國內第一個專責原住民族語言研究發展之單位，以族語「推廣行銷」、「研究發展」、「保存創新」和「認證測驗」為核心宗旨，並將積極落實原住民族語言發展法之精神，全面推動各項語言復振工作，以維護族語永續傳承及促進族語健全發展。

The research and development of Indigenous languages involve professional academic fields such as linguistics, pedagogy, testing and statistics which require highly specialized professionalisms, and the implementation thereof is beyond the capability of the central authorities. Thus, the “Indigenous Languages Research and Development Foundation,” is established dedicated for execution thereof.
