With the purposes of promoting cooperation and exchanges of Hakka culture at home and abroad, preserving the landscape of Hakka settlements with Hakka cultural features, creating a Hakka cultural atmosphere and providing people with chances to approach Hakka culture, the Hakka Affairs Council has set up two national Hakka cultural parks /museums , namely “Liugdui Hakka cultural Park” in the south of Taiwan and “Taiwan Hakka Museum” in the north of Taiwan, to better utilize available local resources and promote the development of nearby Hakka villages. For the establishment of these two Hakka cultural parks/museums, the Hakka Affairs Council first set up the "Taiwan Hakka Culture Development Center Preparatory Office" in 2004, which has been renamed as the "Hakka Culture Development Center, Hakka Affairs Council” since January 1, 2012 in line with the Government restructuring program. With an area of 30 hectares located in Pingtung County, the “Liugdui Hakka cultural Park” has been open to the public since October 22, 2011 as the ecomuseum that tried to integrate 12 townships relating to Liugdui Hakka villages to collect and carry forward the regional memories in the modern society. With an area of 11.32 hectares located in Tungluo Science Park, the “Taiwan Hakka Museum” officially opened to the public on May 12, 2012 as the global Hakka museum and the global Hakka center of cultural exchange and research with a focus on cultural preservation and education promotion that educates people about Hakka culture and gives them the opportunity to experience the life in a traditional Hakka village. It is hoped that these two national Hakka cultural parks / museums can demonstrate to the world the “hard-neck” Hakka spirit, connect the resources of Hakka villages, integrate Hakka characteristic industries, and improve Hakka vitality.
