Through 2007, the company was a division of the prestigious Asahi Shimbun Company, whose newspapers boast a circulation of over 8 million. In January 2008, the publishing house became independent, although it continues to carry on the exceptional legacy that Asahi Shimbun Company has built up over its long history. Asahi Shimbun Publications books span nearly every field, from politics, economics, business, and science to literature and education, and are available in hardcover, softcover, and bunkobon (pocketbook) editions.
