The exhibition of Estonia presents a selection of the best designed books and children’s books of 2016. The purpose of the competition of Estonia’s best designed books is to show due appreciation for outstanding book design as an inalienable part of our intellectual culture. The competition was first held in 1957; after an interval the tradition was picked up in 1998, and is now sustained by the Estonian Graphic Designers’ Union, the Estonian Publishers’ Association and the National Library of Estonia. The 2016 contest witnessed several interesting homages to classical styles, pastiches and quotations, also playful experiments, exciting ideas and surprising fantasies.
