2023TIBE Attracts 505,000 Attendees in Six Days
As the 31st Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) came to an end on February 5th, 2023, this reading festival had attracted 505,000 visitors within the six days, twice the number of the same event in 2022! A total of 470 publishers from 33 countries joined hands to offer more than 800 wonderful reading events with 790 well-known authors from home and abroad. The number of visitors, overall sales, and popularity of TIBE all showed positive growth, as celebrities came book shopping to show their support for the publishing industry. This year, the international media, exhibitors, and professional visitors were particularly impressed by the enthusiastic response from readers in Taiwan.
Being the Guest of Honor country of TIBE 2023, Poland created a beautiful pavilion of 414 square meters to showcase mini exhibitions of rare books and antiquities, Captains of Illustration, Polish history in literature, etc., thanks to the joint efforts of the Polish Book Institute, Adam Mickiewicz Institute, and the Polish Office in Taipei. Many readers came to visit the Polish pavilion, and the “Polish Night"” was a great success with authentic food, music, and culture; more than 500 people showed up to celebrate Poland together.
International publishers were very happy to be able to return to TIBE in the post-epidemic era as the travel ban was finally lifted. Indeed, face-to-face exchanges were very helpful in discussing right exchange. During the exhibition, industry professionals from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia had genuine and vivid interactions.
Various publishing professional forums took place in TIBE, and this year the focus was publishing and marketing, TikTok and social media, managing children's book platforms, as well as international right promotion, all of which received very positive feedbacks from practitioners.
